Patrolling the Sistahs

by on Apr.02, 2011, under Colorado, Colorado, Ride Reports, Videos

And yet another beautiful day in Colorado.  After spending a week in NJ, I really needed to get out and breath some fresh air.  What better way than to combine riding and giving back a little to the people who maintain our great trails.  Love them or hate them, we are lucky to have access to some of the best dirt in the world.

One would think that given the opportunity of an early Spring warm day, it would bring out quite a few people.  Yes, it did.  The record breaking temperatures brought out a fair amount of hikers, joggers, and mountain bikers.  But, there were no conflicts and plenty of space to have a moment alone.

I made good use of the sun and warmth, pedaling onward and upward.

The scenic overlook, was scenic.  I spent quite a bit of time here, looking, thinking, and striking up conversations with all the people who came to do the same thing.  I enjoy that aspect of patrolling the most.  I think that is what breeds the right attitude between all users of the trails.

I don’t know why the scenic overlook isn’t as scenic as the top of the mountain.  You can be the judge.  Which is more scenic, the previous photo, or this one?

“It’s just a meadow”, said one of the people in the parking lot.  Just a meadow?  I told her to stand still and focus just below the rock formation.  Take a deep breath and tell me the colors you see.

“Oh, I never thought about it that way”, she said.

Yeah, it is pretty amazing you when you do some separation.

Just a meadow.

Funny how just a ride, just a day volunteering, just talking to people, and just observing can turn into just an incredible day.

Yes, I did shoot some video.  Unfortunately, I had an incorrect setting on the exposure, so it’s a little light.  Hopefully, you get the point.
